How to Prioritize Self-Care in This Moment

Sometimes, everything just feels overwhelming, and right now, it’s especially tough for many of us. If you’re struggling, here are a few simple things you can try to take care of yourself and maybe even lift your spirits a bit.

  1. Open a window
    Opening a window can do wonders. The fresh air, the sounds of birds or wind rustling through the trees—it’s a small way to bring some calm into your space when going outside feels too much.
  2. Listen to some Lizzo
    It’s hard to go wrong with some Lizzo. Her music has a way of making things feel a little lighter, so crank it up and let yourself enjoy it.
  3. Make some art
    One of the biggest misconceptions is that art has to be “good” to be worth making. It doesn’t! Whether it’s drawing, painting, or coloring, just pick up something and create. It doesn’t have to be perfect; it just needs to be for you.
  4. Buy yourself a new toy
    Treat yourself to something that makes you happy, whether it’s a new toy or anything else that brings you joy. You deserve it, so pick whatever feels right for you!
  5. Set limits on doomscrolling
    It’s easy to get caught up in the news, especially when it feels like the world is falling apart. Instead of checking endlessly, set limits for yourself. The bad news will still be there when you go back to it, we promise.
  6. Do something fun for 10 minutes
    Sometimes, taking a short break can make a world of difference. Set a timer for 10 minutes and do something you enjoy—watch a quick episode of your favorite show, play a game, or scroll through TikTok. Let yourself have those few minutes of fun.
  7. Treat yourself
    Sometimes, a simple treat can lift your mood. Order your favorite pizza or go get that iced coffee you love. Little things like that can make a big difference.
